A Young Person’s Guide to…..Being A Child

By Ed, age 8

As a child you get love, people treat you kindly.  Basically, if you are scared of the dark you can ask your parents for a night light, and if they love you, they will give you one. If you haven’t got one you haven’t shown much love to them.  If you kiss and hug your parents, it shows 10% love and if they kiss and hug you back that shows 100% love.

You go to school and get friends.  You learn all about what the teacher says, which makes you clever.  You get to play games and do PE, which is good for you and helps with your heart.  You can have play dates with your friends you made at school.  As you grow up you get to more ‘stuff’ to help you as in learning stuff.

You get to know your family, you know who you can trust, feel safe and be happy with.  My family is Grandpa, Grandma, Nanny, Alfie, Daddy, cousin George, Mummy and Jamie, Auntie Caitlin and Uncle Sam.  My brother is called Lewis and he is annoying.  I know who to go to when I’m sad I go to my family.  I’m lucky to have a family, some people are rich but don’t have family.

I have a girlfriend and not a wife because I’m a child.  Which is good because a wife is bossy.  I get to play with my dog (Alfie) who is funny and good to play with.

Halloween is good as a child as you get sweets and get to dress up.

You get invited to birthday parties to see your friends and have cake and play games and get party bags.  If its your birthday you get presents too.

At Christmas you get presents and stuff from Santa.  You get to have stuff that your parents can afford to buy you.  We get to see our family and we can build snowmen.  We get the fire on and put up the Christmas tree.

Easter is good too because you get chocolate eggs and bunnies.  You get to go Easter Egg hunting.  If you want to you can celebrate Jesus because he created Easter. By moving the massive boulder and getting out.  People came to see because they didn’t believe he had gone.

It’s tough to pick the best bit because I love my family and playing with my friends.  As a child you don’t have to go to work, and you get to play.

What could adults learn from children?  Adults could learn CPR from children as its taught in schools all over the world.
